Other Network Topologies

The final question to be answered by this project is, how can the ideas implemented in previous chapters be extended and improved upon. The network that was implemented was not the only idea that was considered. In this chapter, several other possible network topologies are presented that may provide improved performance over the simulated network. Although implementing and testing these topologies goes beyond the scope of the project undertaken, they suggest that the network studied is generally applicable to a wide range of other situations. In particular, the testing of the diagonal edge described in Chapter 7 revealed one of the problems with the network--because edge segments in diagonal edges are further away from each other, it is harder for them to reinforce each other. This problem could be solved by using one of the alternative network topologies discussed in this chapter.
